Glee rocks. My kids and I watch every episode, and I dream that one day they’ll sing and dance for me just like Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson do. Annabelle, Estelle, Soren and I are suckers for musicals. We love everything from Xanadu to Grease to The Sound of Music. (They’re little kids, so I fast forward through racy parts–no need to explain Kurt and Blaine’s breakup just yet). My husband is thrilled because he’s off the hook. He’s sick of “The hills are alive…” and has endured many years of it.
Anyway, my point is that I am psyched to hear about this new professional-ish show choir for teens. The Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Musical Show Choir is currently looking for talented young singers and dancers between the ages of 16 and 22. The Playhouse plans many local performances, and I’m wondering if I can just go ahead buy our tickets now. I get ahead of myself. The Playhouse has to hold auditions first.
The (Brand New) Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Musical Show Choir Auditions
Who: Young singers and dancers ages 16 to 22
What: Auditions for a free instructive show choir with a 5-month commitment
When: First auditions will be on Wednesday, February 6 at 8:30 p.m. Call backs will be on Sunday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m.
More Info: Kids should prepare a pop/rock song or upbeat musical theater piece of approximately 32 bars (no more than one verse and chorus) that demonstrates their vocal range. Bring sheet music, in your key, in a binder or single sheets taped together that contain full piano accompaniment, not just chord symbols. An accompanist will be provided. Students may not perform a cappella or to an audio recording. Everyone will be asked to dance. Students will be taught a dance combination which will then be performed in small groups. Evaluation will be based on skill, potential and the ability to learn the routine.
Good luck kids–I can’t wait to watch you. Here, I leave your with our favorite Glee number for inspiration:
