Mausam Secaucus To Open In MontclairMausam, an Indian restaurant in Secaucus, who also bring their fare to NYC via the food truck Curry N Bites, is coming soon to Montclair (not Montclir), the former Aroma Palace space.

Reviewer Elisa Ung, who dubbed Mausam “the best empty restaurant” she ever dined at, raved about the food. Mausam will be located on Bloomfield Ave., right by Chatni, which opened late last year, and not far from Satish Palace, in what is shaping up to be Montclair’s Little India.

Speaking of Indian, what’s your favorite dish to order?

  1. Has anybody eaten here? I welcome a new Indian restaurant – in hopes that it is good. Unfortunately, the best Indian I’ve found is Natraj Palace in Bloomfield. The angle of this story that’s important to me is not “another Indian restaurant is opening near other Indian restaurants” — it’s “Is this place good or not?” Reviews? “Montclir” (the “a” is silent) can handle another Indian restaurant, no problem.

  2. Wait, what happened to Aroma? Why did Aroma close? WHERE ARE YOU GOING AROMA? COME BAAAAAACK!

I hope this new joint will take advantage of its large kitchen (isn’t it, like, the biggest one in downtown Montclair?) and have awesome weekend buffets like Aroma did.

I haven’t tried Chatni yet. Satish Palace is good, but the service is soooo sloooow. My favorite Indian spot is Brick Lane – great food, great service, and such nice folks running the place. I like charisma with my Malai Kofta!

  3. I’ve been to the Mausam in Secaucus many times – same owners – Hopefully the same food as it was EXCELLENT! unlike most other Indian places. I’ve been telling friends to go there for years now. If this place is as good it will be a real winner in Montclair.

  4. Get out of Montclair and explore Indian in Parsippany or Jersey City (Indian Row). Montclair establishments are a bad joke (too oily).
Brick Lane is offensive to the taste buds at best.

  5. my brother & I eat at the Secaucus restaurant a couple of times a week for lunch. The food is consistently good and we chose it over the other Indian restaurant in town. I usually eat in Satish Palace when I have Indian in town but this will be a nice alternative. I will definitely be there to check it out.

  6. Liz, when are you going to work up the nerve to venture in to the DLV? This place hasn’t even opened yet.

  7. Diwan-E-Khaas @ 53 Nassau St. was my favorite for years. Inexpensive, plentiful, vegetarian lunch with very cool Indian pop music on the sound system. Prior to 9/11 it occupied 2 floors but downsized afterwards to just street level, just across from the ‘Fed’. Bhaingan Bharta was my personal ‘fav.

  8. Sheepy — name the time and I’ll meet you there (I’ve been there twice but happy to return)
