If you’re ready to get your spring on– and we know you are — you’re in luck. This Thursday, May 2, experience two great Montclair plant sales that have come together for a horticulture blow-out and one stop shopping. The Montclair Historical Society Herb Sale and The Garden Club of Monclair Plant Sale to benefit Montclair schools garden projects will be held together at the Historical Society this week.

The Garden Club Plant Sale started when Bradford parent and landscape architect Kristen Krongard noticed the dilapidated condition of the school’s landscaping. She took action and with the Garden Club held a huge plant sale to re-landscape the school grounds so it was both attractive and sustainable. The project was such a success that the sale is now held every year to benefit a new Montclair school. This year’s sale will support the Hillside School where the grounds and educational gardens are in dire need of funds and care.
This is not just any plant sale. These gorgeous little numbers have been hand picked by both Kristen and myself as a volunteer and Hillside parent. A HUGE variety of both unusual annuals, succulents and perennials that you won’t find at any local nursery. The sale will also have a large selection of deer resistant plants, more typical bedding annuals and lovely hanging baskets. This combined with the Historical Societies huge variety of herbs it is a gardeners dream come true.

Here is a small sample of the herbs and tomatoes for sale:
- Basil: 7 varieties including Cinnamon, Neapolitan, Thai Siam Queen
- Burnet (salad)
- Vietnamese Coriander
- Horseradish
- Lemon grass
- Lovage
- Golden ginger mint
- Savory
- Coconut Thyme
- Heirloom tomatoes: 7 varieties

Come buy your summer plants while supporting Montclair schools, the Historical Society and get expert gardening advice from Montclair Garden Club members while you shop. *NOTE before you plant impatiens this year read this and come check out all of the shade loving alternatives at the sale.

Holly, are you going to have tree peonies? I love tree peonies. I planted some in my old house, Taiyo and Yae Sakura were the two varieties. They were gorgeous and I still revel and get woozy with joy when I recall the size and beauty of those blooms.
I won’t be able to make it until Saturday. I hope there are still some nice shade plants left!
you got me at coconut thyme!! gotta have that.
Holly, if YOU picked out all the unusual plants, I know its going to be a fabulous sale. AND for a good cause!
Just left with a mini van packed full of some gorgeous plants. That’s the fun part! Now if I can get them planted and watered before school is out, I just might go get another car load!
We just got a whole truckload of new flowers and baskets. All gorgeous stuff and all to help re-landscape the school!
