jewish heritage nightLast night, Jersey Jackals Baseball and JCC MetroWest celebrated Jewish Heritage Night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The evening included Israeli music, Jewish sports trivia, games and prizes. Cantor Meredith Greenberg from Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield sang both the Israeli National Anthem, “Hatikvah,” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”

According to photographer Michael Reitman, who attended the event, there was a Kosher caterer brought in for the game for those who observe strict Kosher dietary laws.

Boy Scout Troop 118, a Jewish contingency of The Boy Scouts of America, lead by Scoutmaster Michael Schatzberg and Scoutmaster Rabbi Lisa Vernon, were also present at the event.

Where was Ron Bloomberg and Art Shamsky. And what, no Sandy Koufax to throw the first pitch and Brad Ausmus to catch it?

Stopped by on opening day to take out a dozen empanadas. Very welcoming space, especially with the storefront glass open on a warm spring day and sidewalk tables available; and, the staff were warm and engaged. The empanadas are soft and pastry-like, rather than the harder crisper type. They got a thumbs up from the Morales family, who loves them a good empanada!
