Buddhakan and Yellow Plum Restaurants Prepare To Open: UPDATED

UPDATE: Buddakan of NYC just got back to us…”We do not operate a restaurant in Montclair NJ. It must be owned by another company.”

Two new, promising-looking restaurants are coming to Baristaville. Buddhakan, billed on its awning as an “Asian-Fusion Grill,” is setting up shop in the former Indigo Kitchen space on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. We can’t help but wonder if the awning contains a typo…could it be a suburban outpost of the hip Chinese restaurant: Buddakan?

yellow plum And we have an update to our post about the Bar Cara closing. Chef/owner Ryan DePersio’s former restaurant in Bloomfield on Broad Street is gone, and there’s an awning up for Yellow Plum. The restaurant/bar is owned by the father and son team of Dennis and Chris Lukic.

Are you looking forward to trying these two new eateries?

  1. Even if it was a Suburban outpost, they wouldn’t change the spelling of their name, would they? I’m guessing this is to confuse people into thinking they are going to Buddakan. Most likely it will work, as I already told my friends that “Buddakan is coming to Montclair!”

  2. Buddhakan is a promising-looking restaurant and also a promising-looking trademark infringement defendant.

  3. Wasn’t the original Indigo Smoke on lower Bloomfield Avenue from 10 years ago (or more) forced to change it’s name after opening because of a claimed trademark infringement by the NYC barbecue place? When will a Montclair restaurant get to sue the awning off some new restaurant in NYC?

  4. Yellow Plum is open! drove by last night and there were people eating outside. can’t find a menu or anything yet online.

  5. I finally tried Yellow Plum and it was AMAZING. I will absolutely go back in the near future, it was the finest food I’ve experienced in some time. Every bite was flawlessly seasoned and beautiful to look at. The Lobster Bolognese was truly the best I’ve ever had! Oh and the drinks….Wow!!
