Soccer fans won’t want to miss the Sky Blue FC game this Saturday, the last home contest of the regular season for the Jersey-based professional women’s soccer team. Sky Blue, currently holding second place in the newly-formed National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will battle the Washington Spirit on Yurcak Field at 7pm. The playing field is located on Rutgers’ campus in Piscataway, NJ–only about a 45 minute drive from Montclair.

Jersey girls Christie Rampone (defender, and captain of both Sky Blue and the U.S. Women’s National  Team) and Jill Loyden (goalie, see spotlight video on her below) are popular players on Sky Blue. “Christie, Jill and all our players are very personable and generous with their fans. They’re happy to stay after the game and sign autographs,”

says Cristine Wilson, Community Relations Manager for the team. “It’s a great opportunity for young girls to meet them. I would’ve done anything to be near the great female soccer players as a girl growing up playing the game.”

A previous incarnation of the team, Jersey Sky Blue FC, was a member of the Women’s Professional Soccer league, and won the inaugural WPS Championship in 2009. Likewise, NJ’s new team has a shot at winning the inaugural NWSL championship. Playoffs are scheduled for Aug. 24th and 31st.
