Flubber

The kids of Shomrei Emunah Preschool made “Flubber” last week in their Silly Science class and wanted to share the recipe with Barista Kids readers. It’s an easy and fun science craft to with the kids:

Materials:
  • 8 oz glue (we used Elmer’s)
  • 1 tsp Borax
  • 8 oz water, plus 1/2 cup later
  • food coloring (optional)
Steps:

Pour glue into a bowl.  Add 8 oz water and mix thoroughly.  Add a few drops of food coloring, if you’d like.  (Children love experimenting with mixing different colors.)  Next, add 1 tsp Borax to 1/2 cup warm water and slowly stir in to the glue mixture.  Mix together (use your hands, it’s easier!) until mixture has a rubbery consistency.  You can experiment with adding less or more Borax mixture, depending on the consistency of flubber you like best.  Pour out any extra water that remains in the bowl.  Remove your flubber and have fun!
