September 27, 2013
Mr. Brian Fleischer Chief Operating Officer
Montclair Public Schools 22 Val ley Road Montclair, NJ 07042
Dear Mr. Fleischer:
I am honored to appoint Anne Mernin to the Montclair Board of Education to complete the unexpired term of Tanya Coke.
I have known Anne since our days at Northeast School and believe that she is among the most respected residents of our community. I hold Anne, Michael, and the entire Mernin family in the highest regard. The Mernins have two students in the public schools and one who graduated from Montclair High School.
Anne is probably best known for her extraordinary work with Toni’s Kitchen, but she been a major contributor to our community and particularly the public schools. She has been a PTA President, PTA Council member, Montclair Library Trustee, and Girl Scout Troop Leader.
Anne’s stellar “civic resume” is matched by her professional and academic credentials. I anticipate that Anne’s extensive management experience will be quite helpful to the Board. Also, degrees from the University of Virginia and New York University evidence a keen intellect. I am also impressed that she earned a teaching certificate from Bloomfield College.
More than anything else, I am appointing Anne because she is a leader and these unsettled days in our public schools demand strong dispassionate leadership. I believe that Anne will not only be a leader on the Board; she will be a leader of the Board in the days ahead.
Board president, Robin Kulwin, tells Barista Kids:
Anne Mernin has a long record of service and involvement in the Montclair community. I have had the privilege of collaborating with her in numerous school activities over the years. She is a hard working, intelligent and thoughtful Township resident, utterly committed to the values we share. Anne will be a great asset to the Board and I look forward enthusiastically to working with her.
