It’s Peak Leaf Peeping Time: Where Will You Go?

skylands logoWant to see some gorgeous fall foliage, without heading all the way to Vermont? Last weekend we took the 45-minute drive to lovely Skylands, the NJ State Botanical Garden, and were rewarded with spectacular weather and vistas.

The leaves were nearing their peak autumn colors, and abundant in many hues: blazing amber, brilliant gold, rich crimson, deep burgundy, and of course every shade of green.

The carnival of color will be gone only too soon, so now is the time to make your leaf peeping plans. Where will you go?

For biking and hiking enthusiasts, the mill property boarders on the Paulinskill Trail, one of the most exquisite features of the territory, and down the road is White Lake.
Close to the nearby Delaware Water Gap is the Walpack Inn, famous for their delicious home made bread and you can rent a rustic cabin for the night.
Celebrate Octoberfest at the Black Forest Inn, in Byram, with superb German cuisine and an “Um Pa band” all weekends through October (reservations are necessary) and for an interesting crafts experience, visit Peter’s Valley Art Village.
Enjoy a spectacular autumn day, visit us at the Gristmill and if you visit historic Waterloo Village, just about a half hour from the Mill. “

  2. profwilliams, no doubt you’ll be wearing a hoodie and marveling at the colors shooting out of your spray cans. DAP

  3. I like to take a ride out to Imlaystown, via the back roads of Monmouth County. There, I like to eat at the Happy Apple Inn, an old stagecoach stop turned restaurant. It’ s a great Fall trip.

  4. Let’s see. I think I’ll take a train ride. I’ll board the 6:41 at NY Penn Station, and take in the sights as we ride through the MEadowlands in the pitch darkness.

  5. Montclair has great foliage – Red Maple, Sassafras, White Oak, TulipTree, Burning Bush, and a host of others. A walk around the neighborhood in October clears the mind, relaxes, and inspires.
