UPDATE: The Little Read 2013: An Annual Celebration of Reading

The Little ReadMontclair celebrities and an array of other citizens—including yours truly—will take turns reading stories to the town’s children later this month at the annual The Little Read, the Montclair Public Library’s town-wide read-aloud marathon celebrating community and literacy. Now in its fifth year, the event will take place on October 25 and 26 at the Main Library, the Bellevue Avenue Branch Library, and also at the Montclair Art Museum.

The weekend will begin with The Little Read’s Bedtime Stories and Milk & Cookies Reception event on Friday evening, October 25, with readings by Frankie Faison, who has appeared on Broadway and in many film and television roles, including HBO’s ‘The Wire.” The event will also include readings from Mayor Robert Jackson, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Penny MacCormack and Library Director David Hinkley.

UPDATE: Patrick Wilson and Dagmara cannot read after all, but stay tuned for more exciting readers!  Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony-nominated actor Patrick Wilson and his wife, author and actress Dagmara Dominczyk, will headline the Montclair Public Library Foundation’s annual “Little Read” on Saturday, October 26 at the Main Library. They will be followed by best-selling author Dottie Frank and author, CNN Chief Business Correspondent Christine Romans, and Editor-in-Chief of Barista Kids Georgette Gilmore. Readings will also take place at the Bellevue Avenue Library and at the Montclair Art Museum.

The Little Read is truly one of my all-time favorite Montclair community events. There is nothing better than to celebrate reading and literacy with families and to celebrate the Montclair Public Library. In 2013, the Children’s Department presented 404 programs for children 12 and younger and 6 programs for teens 13-18 years of age; over 12,935 children attended these programs. The popular Summer Reading Club boasted 1330 registrants who read a total of 37,218 books in 2013. The Little Read is free to the attend, but if you love our library and the event, you can make a donation to the Montclair Public Library Foundation.
