Bloomfield Crime Report: Paint Ball Mischief, Stolen Van, Multiple Burglaries And Carjackings

Bloomfield Police Department Crime Report for the week of 11-11-2013provided by Sgt. Anthony J Servedio:

BURGLARY

11-05-2013 – On Linden Avenue the victim of a burglary reported that a male suspect broke into his home and stole a stained glass window. The suspect fled the scene in a yellow vehicle.

11-05-2013 – On the 1300 block of Broad St. a rear door was determined to be the point of entry for a burglary that occurred between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm. Various pieces of jewelry and watches were taken.

11-06-2013 – On the 400 block of Beardsley Avenue, the front door of a residence was determined to be the point of entry for a burglary. A bedroom was ransacked and it is unknown if anything was taken from the residence.

BURGLARY INTO AUTO

11-05-2013 – On the 100 block of Walnut Street a vehicle was broken into and a GPS unit was stolen.

11-05-2013 – On the 200 block of Belleville Ave. an unknown suspect broke into a vehicle and stole a radio and a GPS unit.

11-09-2013 – On N 13th St. a 2002 Nissan was broken into through a vent window. The interior of the vehicle was ransacked and it is unknown if any items are missing from the vehicle.

11-09-2013 – On the 100 block of Jerome Pl. a 1992 Honda had its rear window broken and the car stereo was taken.

STOLEN VEHICLE

11-05-2013 – On Willard Avenue a red 2001 Dodge van with N.J. license plates was stolen.

ATTEMPT THEFT AUTO

11-05-2013 – On Abington Ave. near N 17th St. an unknown suspect attempted to steal a 2013 Ford.

11-08-2013 – On Henry St. a 2007 Nissan had its ignition damaged during an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle.

THEFT

10-30-2013 – On Oakland Ave. a victim reported that she placed her Kindle down and when she went to retrieve it, it had been stolen by an unknown suspect.

11-04-2013 – On the 100 block of Montgomery St. a women’s bicycle was stolen from the rear yard.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

11-04-2013 – On the 500 block of Bloomfield Ave. multiple parked vehicles were struck by paint balls.

11-07-2013 – On Waverly Terr. a 2003 Hyundai was damaged when an unknown suspect scratched the paint.

ROBBERY/CARJACKING

On November 4, 2013 at 4:27 pm a 15 year old Bloomfield resident was robbed of his I-Phone while walking in the area of Bay Ave &Hoover Ave. The juvenile victim reported that he was approached by a heavyset Hispanic male, approximately 5’11” tall, in his late teens or early 20’s, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, who grabbed the victim’s I-Phone while he was walking and fled on foot towards Brookside Park. The Hispanic suspect was accompanied by 2 other suspects who were described by the victim as both being black males, 5’10” or 5’11” tall, in their late teens or early 20’s and both wearing hooded sweatshirts, one green and one grey. When the suspects fled, the victim briefly gave chase until the Hispanic male suspect turned and hit the victim several times. Officers searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate anyone.

On November 5, 2013 at 6:43 pm a 42 year old Bloomfield resident had her vehicle carjacked while she was sitting in it, pulled over to the curb on the 100 block of Broad St. The victim reported that a black male suspect entered the passenger side of her vehicle and yelled at her to get out of the car. After exiting the vehicle the victim watched as the suspect fled south on Broad St. in her 2012 Audi SUV. The suspect was described by the victim as being a black male approximately 17 to 20 years old, slim build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

On November 6, 2013 Officer Thomas Icolari was working in an unmarked vehicle when he spotted the stolen / carjacked SUV on Bloomfield Ave. He followed the carjacked vehicle to the area of Bloomfield Ave. & N 15th St. where he was met by back-up Officer Michael McCracken. Officer Icolari exited his unmarked police car and ordered the suspects to shut off their vehicle. Instead, the driver of the suspect vehicle accelerated in reverse, crashing into the unmarked police car pushing it some 30 feet. The suspect vehicle then accelerated forward towards Officer Icolari trying to hit him but fortunately he was able to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle then continued forward crashing into Officer McCracken’s marked police car and sped off on Belmont Ave.
The suspect vehicle was located a short time later by Belleville Police unoccupied on Alva St.
A multi-jurisdictional search that included a K-9 unit from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department was conducted and several possible suspects were located and questioned.
The investigation is ongoing with the Bloomfield Police Department Detective Bureau and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office working together, and charges are pending.

DUI ARRESTS

11-04-2013 – Maria Hernandez of Bloomfield was arrested for DWI.

ARRESTS

11-05-2013 – Willie Evans of Orange was arrested and charged with theft of movable property in connection to the theft of metal grates at the parking garage.

11-06-2013 – Matthew Evans age 32 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Keron Piper for outstanding warrants form the Essex County Prosecutors Office.

11-06-2013 – David Travis age 31 of Peapack was arrested by Officer Georgio Antinori for an outstanding Bloomfield warrants.

11-07-2013 – Franco Carrera age 20 of Hawthorne was arrested by Officer Argenis Vargas for an outstanding $2500.00 Bloomfield warrant. A court date of 11/13/13 is pending.

On November 8, 2013 Michael Gonzalez age 21 of Bloomfield and Edward Santiago age 26 of Bloomfield were arrested by Sgt. Thomas Fano for DUI and possession of CDS.
While on patrol Sgt. Thomas Fano conducted a motor vehicle stop of the black Honda that Mr. Gonzalez was driving on Broughton Ave. While interviewing Mr. Gonzalez Sgt. Fano noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the car and asked the occupants to exit the vehicle. A Zip Lock baggie containing marijuana and glass smoking pipe were located in the vehicle and the two men were placed under arrest. After being transported to Police HQ’s both men were charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and being under the influence of a narcotic.
Mr. Gonzalez was additionally charged with DUI, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and failure to exhibit MV documents.
Both men were released on their own recognizance with a court date of 11/12/13 pending.

11-08-2013 – Nicholas Zappulla age 25 of Nutley was arrested by Officer Raymond Diaz after he turned himself in on a $250.00 contempt warrant out of Newark.

11-09-2013 – Frank Reed age 36 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Raymond Diaz for an outstanding Belleville warrant.

11-09-2013 – Volcy Horving age 53 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Meljun Pascua after he conducted a motor vehicle stop of the car Mr. Horving was driving. Mr. Horving was processed on the active Bloomfield warrant and released pending a 11/12/13 court date.

11-09-2103 – Orlando Frazier age 36 of Newark was arrested by Officer Victor Gonzalez for shoplifting $212.00 worth of merchandise from The Home Depot. Officer Gonzalez responded to The Home Depot after Loss Prevention Officers called to report that they caught Mr. Frazier attempting to remove the merchandise from the store without paying for it. A court date of 11/20/13 is pending.
