In all of the hullabaloo over Tuesday’s election and its predictable outcome, not much attention was given to Luis Quintana’s swearing in on Monday.
Luis Quintana is Newark’s decidedly low-key new mayor. The former Newark Council President was appointed interim mayor after rising star Cory Booker resigned to become a U.S. senator.
Quintana, 53, is Newark’s first Latino mayor and will serve in his position until July 1, 2014, when Booker’s term expires. The city will hold general elections in May, but Quintana says he has no plans to seek the job.
His ambitions may not be as great as the man he replaces, and neither are his social media skills. While Cory Booker has 1.4 million Twitter followers, Quintana has none. “I don’t twit. I only walk. I don’t email. I don’t Facebook,” he told the Star-Ledger.
How will Newark–and the rest of us–cope?
