Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. It’s a time, not just for stuffing your face, but to reflect on what you are thankful for. Here at Barista Kids we are so thankful for our wonderful readers—the ones that have been reading us from the beginning and the new ones who just discovered us. We’re thankful for the group of talented writers that make our site a great resource for parents.

This year, I’m thankful that my parents and close friends will join us at our home for Thanksgiving. For the first time in many years, I’ll be hosting a large crowd of loved ones.

Kristen Kemp is thankful  for “my big opinion and even bigger mouth. It’s taken me 39 years to become brave enough to say what I think and stand up for it.”

Here are what the other baristas are thankful for:

“I’m thankful for strong coffee, my husband and kids for always making me laugh, and being with good friends. This year, I’m especially thankful to work more with and have the support of Georgette Gilmore.”  ~ Liz George

“I’m grateful for my four year old who teaches me a life lesson every day, whether I want one or not.  And I’m grateful for my baby who loves to cuddle. Most of all, I’m grateful for my husband who will stay up with me all night when these two little angels decide that sleep isn’t for them.  And ice cream.  I’m eternally grateful for good ice cream.” ~ Emily Klein

“I’m thankful to be surrounded by talented and hard-working people, and I’m thankful for renewed opportunities I’ve had this year. I’m also thankful for an understanding husband who has accommodated various volunteer activities. I know I’m lucky to be in a place of privilege regarding the freedom to purchase groceries where I choose. I know that’s not the case for everyone. I also feel lucky to have had fantastic teachers and aides and administrative staff in my son’s school. And as corny as it sounds, I’m incredibly thankful that my kids’ health has been strong this year. It’s been a happy change from the year before.” ~ Kristin Wald

“I am, of course, abundantly thankful for the good health and security of my family, and never take it for granted. But this year, on a more specific, and very local level, I am so very thankful for my son’s teachers. They make the herculean effort every day to both nurture and challenge, and excite and empower my child. He comes off the bus singing every day and can’t wait to go back again in the morning. So a HUGE “Thanks” to the wonderful teachers at Hillside School!” ~ Melissa Klurman

“I’ve been going back into the work of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. of late, and I’m thankful for the humane wisdom and perspective contained therein. I can barely count the times I’ve kept my head screwed on straight by reminding myself of the Slaughterhouse Five refrain, ‘So it goes.’ And you could hardly do better than this one, from Sirens of Titan: ‘A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.‘ Some select Vonnegut words to be thankful for are here, too.” ~ Brian Glaser

“I’m thankful for having a place to live in an uncertain economy and for having my mother to help me as much as I help her.” ~ Steve Maginnis

“I’m thankful for all the days I wake up, my family, the Sisters on the Runway girls, Lipton tea with lemon, Google, weekend mornings when I can sleep in, dark chocolate, my mom’s cooking and Passion Pit.” ~ Lauren Glasse

“I am thankful for my family, superb friends, and blossoming acquaintances. Their support and friendship challenge me to push forward and also appreciate the past.  These special connections make my life a colorful. In addition, I feel extremely lucky to have the freedom to make choices.  Many times we accept the norm.  When you realize the norm is constantly moving and you can choose to change it creates the liberty of life.  And for that I am thankful.  Happy Thanksgiving.” ~ Alexa Sahadi

“My father went into the hospital last week. I am thankful that he pulled through and for the people that are taking care of me while I take care of him. My thankful list includes an unbelievably supportive husband, my older daughter who knows what I need when I am not sure myself, my younger daughter who seemlessly played the role of mommy for a few days, and my son whose voice alone is able make me smile even when I don’t think I can. Also I am thankful for my incredible ‘village’ – old friends, new friends and people I only barely know who are reaching out with kind words and offers of help with my kids.” ~ Randi Mazzella

“When I look back at this year, the moments I cherish are filled with laughter.  It is magical, it is infectious, it is contagious. It even has health properties.  Laughter bonds my family together, and for this I am thankful.” ~ Jen Lange
