  1. Congratulations to our high school student athletes and the coaching staff of the MHS State Championship football team! And kudos to the cheerleaders, the marching band, and to the families who support all these kids throughout their academic careers in Montclair. Saturday night was a great snapshot of the strong and positive community we are part of and of the support that exists for our high school among students, parents and extended families, alumni and friends. There a few thousands Montclairians enjoying each other at tailgates in the Met Life Stadium parking lot and in stands, which were packed from the student section in the end zone all the way to the opposite 25 yard line. Our team showed first-class sportsmanship, and the kids’ quotes in state-wide media like the Star Ledger and others showed how well spoken and team focused they are. Just like the fall athletic success celebrated by our field hockey and boys and girls soccer teams — and participation in a national HS Model Congress down in DC this weekend — Well done, Mounties! Now, everyone go an buy tix for the great musical theater production at MHS next weekend. MHS is a special place. I think it is valuable to remember all this as the educational issues facing our community, state and nation continue to be discussed. Links included below.

  2. In the past three years, since the start of the 2011 season, the MHS football team has a combined record of 35-1.

They have outscored there opponents 1,358 points to 275 during that period.

The have shutout their opponents 14 times.

They have won two consecutive Group IV State Championships, only losing 14-13 in 2011 on last play of game to North Bergen, who ultimately forfeited game and stripped of title because of an ineligible player.

Great job Coach John Fiore and congratulations to the MHS Mounties on another great season and 2013 State Championship.

  3. Wow silverleaf, 35-1 is just amazing. Congratulations Mounties! Great job coaches! You should all be very proud.
