New Year’s Eve Family Fun (Updated)

New Year’s Eve Family FunI know there are some parents who get a sitter and go out and celebrate the New Year in style, but since having my first daughter on New Year’s Day almost 10 years ago, I ring in the new year in pajamas. If you’re celebrating the New Year’s Eve with the kids, and want to get out, there are some fun ways to let the kids party at the end of 2013.

Take your pick of these local New Year’s Eve celebrations for kids:


Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Party With Mr. Ray
 All ages
What: Mr. Ray (Ray Andersen) honed his skills jamming with Bruce Springsteen, and his songs are featured in Blues Clues, Radio Disney, and more. This rocking family-friendly show is for the kid in ALL of us!
Where: Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, 760 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
When: Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 am
Cost: Tickets: $14/members, $17/guests

The Funplex New Year’s Eve Bash
 Tweens and teens.
What: New Year’s Eve  Party at The Funplex! Come get unlimited indoor attractions plus 20 tokens. Buffet available 6:30 pm to 8 pm including pizza, chicken tenders, fries & beverages, with a Sweet & Salty Bar available at 8 pm
Where: The Funplex, 182 Route 10 West, East Hanover NJ.
When: Saturday, December 31 from 6:30 pm – 1 am.
Cost: $32.95 per person online OR $36.95 at door.

New Year’s Eve at Central Presbyterian
 All ages
What: Ring in a safe, family-friendly, all-ages New Year’s! Central Presbyterian Church will host a variety of jazz, Broadway, classical, and eclectic musical acts. Non-alcoholic beverages and treats will be available just inside the main doors. Bring non-perishable food to benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry.
Where: Central Presbyterian, 46 Park Street, Montclair, NJ.
When: Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 8:00 – 10:00 PM

First Night Morristown
 All Ages
What: First Night® Morris County is the super fun, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve tradition featuring more than 400 artists in over 80 performances at 24 venues throughout Morristown, ranging from dance and comedy to music and children’s performers.
Where: Mayo Performing Arts Center, 100 South Street, Morristown, NJ.
When: Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 5:00 pm
Cost: Tickets: $20 – 32.50 per person

New Year’s Eve Splash at Adventure Aquarium
 All ages
What: Adventure Aquarium is inviting families throughout the region to dress up in their finest New Year’s Eve attire and head on down to the Camden Waterfront to ring in the New Year “family-style” at the Aquarium’s first annual New Year’s Eve Splash – a special, limited-ticket event that promises to deliver amazing animal exhibits and experiences, family-friendly fun including a “Countdown” Dance Party, and of course, breathtaking views of the City of Philadelphia’s fireworks display over the Delaware River at dusk.
Where: Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Drive , Camden NJ
When: December 31 from 5 pm – 8:30 pm

Children’s Museum of Manhattan’s New Year’s Eve Celebrations
 Little kids.
What: CMOM will offer fun New Year’s Eve projects all day to celebrate.  Meet the Grinch, make a wishing wand, add your New Year’s wish to a mural and more!
Where: CMOM, The Tisch Building, 212 West 83rd Street, NYC.
When: Tuesday, December 31 from 10 am – 5 pm.
Cost: Admission for children over 12 months old and adults is $11.

Big Apple Circus New Year’s Eve Show
Who: Families
What: Join the Big Apple Circus for a festive, one-of-a-kind New Year’s Eve event!
Where: Lincoln Center Damrosch Park, W 62nd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, NYC
When: Tuesday, December 31 at 9:30 pm
Cost: $45-$175

While not a New Year’s Eve party, Turtle Back Zoo’s Holiday Lights Spectacular is a fun way to spend New Year’s Eve night as a family:

Holiday Lights Spectacular
 All ages.
What: Turtle Back Zoo’s annual Holiday Lights decorations of 100,000 bulbs and 50 lit displays illuminate the zoo this holiday season.
Where: Turtle Back Zoo, 560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ.
When: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, November 29 and 30 and December 1. Daily from Friday, December 6 to Sunday, January 1. From 5 to 9 pm each night
Cost: Admission is free!
