kentucky ave logoIf you’d rather revel in the music and atmosphere of the former nightclub known as “The Black Copacabana,” than eat nachos and watch the Super Bowl on TV this Sunday–go see “On Kentucky Avenue: The Club Harlem Revue.”

Montclair’s own talented and charming Jeree and Adam Wade are bringing the new musical, which has been in development for the past two and a half years, to The Triad in New York City this weekend. The show was created by and features Jeree, was written and directed by Adam, and includes original music by them both.

The plot is based on the couple’s collective experiences at The Club Harlem Revue, a hotspot for black performers in Atlantic City in the mid-to-late 20th century, where they both worked at different times. It tells the story of a nightclub owner’s relationships with showgirls, and struggles with mobsters as he tries to keep Club Harlem afloat.

Adam is a very busy man this week. He’s also being honored by the YMCA of Montclair with a reception on Tuesday for his artistic accomplishments. Baristanet profiled Adam here.
