Young Fashion Designers Being Built by Bass Art Studio in Montclair

 Bass Art Studio

Bass Art Studio in Montclair is bringing kids’ Sewing to the Runway. In its Young Fashion Designers and Fashion Sewing classes, kids will  create original designs inspired by Parisian bohemian Anthropologie, one of which is on Church Street in Montclair. These classes will end with a runway show at the Short Hills Mall this April.

Anthropologie, known for its spirited, bohemian fashions will be an inspiration to students of Bass Arts Studio this winter. Learning the craft of fashion, Bass Arts will begin their new session this Saturday for “Young Fashion Designers” 8-11 years old, and “Fashion Sewing” 12-17 years old.

This class will be taught by Andrea Latimer, from Parsons School of Design and former intern of Fabiola Arias. They will study Anthropologie’s aesthetic and learn about how the company has created a lifestyle brand and design philosophy from Jennifer Burnley, Montclair resident and Anthropologie personal stylist. A special guest designer from Anthropologie will talk to the students about the business of fashion.

Students will learn the process of designing a garment from start to finish from rough sketches, pattern design and creating the final product and through all levels of machine and hand sewing.

They’ll even take a field trip to the Garment Center and purchase their fabric from Mood Fabrics, favorite store of Project Runway designers. At the end of the session, they will model and walk their creations down the runway at a fashion show at the Anthropologie show at the Short Hills Mall.
