Is Something Beginning To Smell In Upper Montclair?

trashFirst lax mail deliveryshabby street plowing, and overnight snow removal…and now a missed garbage pickup? C’mon, Montclair. We can do better than that.

“This is the first time that I’ve expected to have my trash picked up this winter and not had it picked up…though it has happened at least twice with recycling,” says Upper Mountain Avenue resident, Nicole Gray. “Other times, we were forewarned that due to weather conditions, there would be no refuse/recycling pick-up. The irony here is that the roads are clear enough to facilitate pick-up.”

Steve Wood, Montclair’s director of Community Services, reports that crews will be out in Section I: “late in the day.”

Hey, at least an apology is proffered on the Township’s website (the second one of the day):

Refuse will be collected today in areas of Section I that were missed yesterday. Apologies for any inconvience interruption to services may have caused.

  1. This would have been good information to know yesterday, before I brought my uncollected garbage back in from the street.

  2. Of course, this could NEVER happen in MONTCLAIR. In Montclair, it would be a travesty, something that needed answers.

In UPPER Montclair however, a missed garbage pick up is just something to talk about at the Cozy End.

  3. This is a serious offense against the good citizens of Montclair. The beginnings of unraveled civilized society, more broken meters, more restaurant closings? Snow that just won’t go away fast enough? The golden era has ended. I am here in DC and will petition congress against this egregious affront. I see this domino affect coming down the Mont to GR and lesser municipalities and we shall stop it dead in it’s tracks before it comes over the rise by carwash/Panera land. It shall not be!
PAZ in DC wishing it were AC.

  4. Finally gave up and decided to bury the trash in the snow drifts. Figured that it’ll kept better that way until the next spring bulky waste pickup.

  5. the only thing smelly in Montclair is the taxes paid for this “public service” which is akin to a third world country on a good day.

  6. there are many things in montclair to complain about and this is not one of them. the sanitation workers do an outstanding job for our community.

  7. I’ve always been happy with the sanitation on my street as well. In addition, the men working on the trucks are much more polite than the cars trying to dodge around them.

  8. “I agree with montyman. Our guys are great.”

That is an insane way to describe the performance of a binary task.

Lets use more appropriate adjectives like satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Now, return to debating.

    Thanks

  9. My guys are FAN-F*ing-TASTIC!!!!

The way the reach in, sometimes with two hands, grabbing three and four foul smelling hefty’s, and then tossing them with style and grace, into the back of the still creeping truck is something I look forward too twice a week.

The Recycling guys on the other hand, leave me cold. There is no charm, no grace, not even a wayward look back at the upturned blue plastic receptacle, in their game. Shame on them, I think to myself as I watch in horror.
