Safiya Oni BrownThe latest installment of our Baristanet Profile series, where we get to know the people in our neighborhood:

Name: Rev. Safiya Oni Brown

Where do you live? Montclair, minutes away from Eagle Rock.

When did you move there? I moved here when I was 7.

Where did you grow up? I lived on a commune in the woods of Michigan before moving here.

How do you make a living? I am a Quantum Healer, a Whole Food Family Counselor, Child Whisperer, Universal Life Minister, Baby Wearing Aficionado,  Fermenting Expert, Holistic Health Counselor and the Co-owner of Kosmic Kombucha & Dr. Brown’s Healing Water.

Coffee, tea or … ? Water with lemon, unless I am feeling naughty then espresso with cinnamon and raw milk.

What’s your idea of a perfect Saturday?  At an outdoor market here or in Brooklyn connecting with people sharing our passion with others.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Daytime — Terra Tea, evening — Samba.

What’s on your nightstand? A asal thermometer and a huge piece of Smokey Quartz.

Your iPod? Mumford and Sons, Meditations, New Order, Pharrell, Sigor Ros…

What are your current addictions? Harmony Integration Therapy and making gluten free pizzas with the family.

Talent you would most like to have. I would like to be able to sing like my hubbie.

What’s the worst-kept secret about Montclair? That we are fiercely loyal to our town and think that we are the best.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? That I lived my truth and it was infectious and that I was an inspiration to all and that my legacy will continue for centuries.
