This is one of those weekends that makes me LOVE living in Montclair. There are so many, really good (I mean really good) events to enjoy. Three big ones and several others all in one weekend.

The Rent Party

On Friday night, Maplewood’s Rent Party throws a show in Bloomfield to benefit Toni’s Kitchen. The monthly party, founded in 2009 in conjunction with the South Orange Elks, benefit food pantries and fight hunger, while offering a great night out. This month features live music from Tri-State, Shark Hat, and Fairmont. This party, including beer, is sure to entertain.

Montclair Center StageEnjoy an evening of great music on Church Street in Montclair on Saturday. Montclair Center Stage has a great line-up in store for you this weekend:

  • 5 pm – 6 pm: Don’t Tell Maggie —Genre: Acoustic Indie/Rock
  • 7 pm – 8 pm: Jodie and the Normals — Genre: Pop/Rock
  • 8:30 pm – 10 pm: The Craig Mitchell Project — Genre: Blues



A benefit concert to honor the memory of John Curry III by alumni and friends of the Northern New Jersey Youth Orchestra will be held on Saturday, May 31, at the Union Congregational Church in Montclair. The fund honors the memory of John Curry III, an alumnus of the orchestra and resident of Montclair. The talented musicians from Montclair and northern New Jersey include many of John’s friends and extended family. They have kept John’s good spirit and love of music alive through their amazing performances and good will.Ensemble music led by Michele Hatcher will begin at 6 pm followed by an intermission/reception, after which the NNJYO Alumni Orchestra, Todd Van Beveren, Artistic Director, will play at 8 pm.

A donation of $10 is requested. Proceeds will benefit the John F Curry 3 Music Fund to support orchestra participation in the NNJYO, lessons, and instruments for deserving young musicians.



Montclair’s Tierney’s Tavern will celebrating 80 years in business with the Tierney’s Tavern Music Festival on Saturday. A gift from the House of Tierney, the show is free and will include music downstairs, upstairs and outside throughout the day. In addition to live music, there will be beer trucks, food trucks, a dunk truck and more. Check out all the details in the flier above.




Join Montclair Historian Mike Farrelly on this walking tour designed to capture the history of the African American community in Montclair, both pre- and post-Civil War. The tour is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Montclair, the NAACP and the Montclair Historical Society. Meet at the corner of Orange Road and Llewellyn Road.

dude's nightSunday night is for the guys…or dudes. Fleet Feet Sports will transform into a man cave for a fun benefit night to support Toni’s Kitchen — Dude’s Night.You’ll be entertained with manly man activities such as beer sampling, outdoor grilling, cooking demonstration and book signing by Tom Flemming, coach and two-time winner of the New York City Marathon.
