Update from Essex County Prosecutor’s Office:

West Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a homicide. Around midnight last night West Orange Police received a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Walker Road and Northfield Avenue. They responded to the location and discovered a male victim dead from an apparent gun shot wound.

The victim has been identified as a Brendan Tevlin, 19, of Livingston. The preliminary investigation indicates he was targeted. No arrests have been made. At this time the investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-847-7432.

The victim was found in the driver’s seat of an SUV in a parking lot of an apartment building, but CBS is reporting that authorities believe Tevlin was shot about a mile from where the SUV with Tevlin’s body was discovered.

Another Land Rover/Range River carjacking attempt? Look for Essex County officials to play this down, since we are becoming the carjacking capital and there has not been a serious campaign to address.

Correction: Range Rover (why does damn autocorrect always prefer “i” to “o”?)

Some news sites are saying it was a Jeep. I guess we will find out eventually.

Drugs and money. You don’t shoot out the windows for a carjacking and drive around with shot-out windows.

And we can get this project completed in time for Montclair's sesquicentennial when we can stick a fork into historic preservation as a public policy.
