Join the fun at one of the local events being held this weekend to launch Catch that Cookie!, a new picture book for kids ages 3-5 by local Maplewood Author Hallie Durand in collaboration with Caldecott Award winning artist David Small. Catch that Cookie! retells an adventure that really happened when author Hallie Durand’s son Marshall was at Maplewood’s Morrow Memorial Preschool and solved the mystery of the disappearing gingerbread cookies with his classmates. Saturday, September 13: Scavenger Hunt & Cookie Decorating at the Maplewood Memorial Library
From 3 – 4 pm there is a family event at the Maplewood Memorial Library (51 Baker Street) for ages 4 and up. This event features a cookie scavenger hunt followed by cookie decorating with The Able Baker. And, the people who inspired the characters in the book will be in attendance, as well as a live rogue cookie! The event is free but registration is currently full. You can be added to the wait list here.
Sunday, September 14: Book Discussion and Scavenger Hunt at the Paramus Public Library
At noon at the Paramus Library (116 East Century Road), there will be a discussion with Hallie Durand and David Small followed by a book signing and scavenger hunt. The event is free but registration is required by calling 201-599-1309.
Sunday, September 14: Studio B Presents Scratches and Scribbles — The Making of Storybooks at The Woodland
From 4:30 to 6:00 pm, Hallie Durand, David Small and other writers and illustrators will discuss with moderator Julie Burstein the process of creating a classic storybook, including the collaboration between author and illustrator, at The Woodland (60 Woodland Road, Maplewood). Monday, September 15: Book Reading and Special Drawing Activity with Illustrator David Small At Words Bookstore
At 4:00 pm, join Words Bookstore (179 Maplewood Avenue) for a book reading and signing as well as a special drawing lesson on shapes and contours with David Small . Mrs. Gray, the teacher who inspired Catch That Cookie!, will make a special appearance as well. Event is free.
