The beautiful tree planted earlier this week in Glen Ridge honors the memory of GRPD Sergeant Robert S. Zeuner (Ret) who served the Borough for 23 years with honor and was well respected throughout the department and the community.
Zeuner was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in 2004 at the age of 39. Medical experts gave him two years, but he lived for nine until he succumbed to the disease on April 9, 2013. His tenacious spirit and positive attitude fueled his determination to live life fully while he could. It was his goal to become a living example that a terminal cancer diagnosis is not an immediate death sentence.
“Rob loved trees, so it is fitting that we plant a tree in his memory. The location is perfect, at Bloomfield Avenue and Herman Street., in direct view of the GRPD Headquarters,”said Chief of Police Sheila Byron-Lagattuta. A memorial plaque will be installed in the spring.
The Zeuner Foundation has been created to bring inspirational support to terminally diagnosed cancer patients, their caretakers and families. Visit the website for more information.
