It was December 7, 1914, that the Bellevue Avenue Library first opened its doors to the public. On Sunday, December 7th, 2014, it will be 100 years to the day since that historic occasion.
In honor of the library’s Official Centennial Birthday, Friends of the Bellevue Avenue Library, with the support of the Montclair Public Library, will be offering an “Opening Day Open House” from 1-5 p.m., Bellevue Avenue Library, 185 Bellevue Avenue in Upper Montclair.
Kid’s programs from 1-3 p.m. include puppet shows and face painting by Puppet Time, sing-a-long concert by Music for Aardvarks, stories by local Montclair authors Sharon Dennis Wyeth and Daniel Kirk, interactive hands-on displays of popular toys from 100 years ago, and an exhibition of animated cartoons from 1914!
Following these programs, from 3-5 p.m., Anderson Park Historian Lisanne Renner and Montclair Historical Society Trustee Helen Fallon will present a slideshow of their popular Upper Montclair Historic District Walking Tour.
