Kwanzaa-10

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) celebrates the spirit of Kwanzaa on Saturday, December 20, with dance and music performances, a tribute to community elders, free activities for children and family, as well as a marketplace for holiday shopping. This day-long festival offers a FREE holiday celebration of culture and community for the entire family.

A fun-filled Kwanzaa Children’s Festival takes place from noon to 5pm in NJPAC’s Center for Arts Education. The afternoon is host to numerous FREE family activities including historical and cultural pride workshops, West-African dance workshops for all ages, the exploration of cultural stories and tales, as well as a quilting workshop. An Artisan Marketplace, where patrons can take care of their gift-giving needs, is open in NJPAC’s Prudential Hall lobby; and a concert by the revered African-American a cappella women’s ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock: Celebrating the Holydays takes place in Prudential Hall at 7:30pm. In addition, NJPAC’s annual A Tribute to the Elders, honoring individuals who have made major contributions to Newark and NJPAC, takes place at 5pm in the Chase Room. This year’s honorees will include Larry Hamm and Dr. Edith Churchman, and a special citation will be given to Tuskegee Airman Charles Nolley.
