Holiday Treats to Light Up Your Hanukkah

Hanukkah begins at nightfall on Tuesday, December 16, and continues for eight days, with the final lighting of the menorah on Wednesday, December 24. The holiday commemorates the miracle of the oil that lasted for eight days, so it’s celebrated by eating fried (oily) food.

Here are some local places and recipes for treats for the Festival of Lights:

Montclair Bread Company (113 Walnut Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042) is taking orders for Jelly Doughnuts to make your Hanukkah celebration complete. Each box comes with 3 apricot, 3 raspberry & 3 strawberry for $25. Special for pre-orders only. Available from December 16 -24.

We’re also told that Palazzone 1960 in Wayne, an authentic Italian bakery, which we wrote about here, makes delicious Sufganiyot, aka jelly filled doughnuts, for Hanukkah.

Dreidal Cookies are available at The Little Daisy Bake Shop (622 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ, 07043), which also usually sells Gelt, Gina’s Bakery (110 Walnut Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042), and The Able Baker (187 Maplewood Avenue, Maplewood, NJ)

Latkes can be ordered at Whole Foods Market Montclair (701 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ, 07042) or Fairway Market (1510 US 46 West, Woodland Park, NJ)
