Montclair Crime: Arrests, Rocks Thrown Through Car Windows, Stolen Packages

Montclair Crime: String Of Burglaries, One Seen by Homeowner on Remote SurveillanceThe week in Montclair Crime from D/Lt. David O’Dowd, Montclair Police Department:

Arrests

On 12/10/2014 at 0217Hrs, dispatch received a call from the alarm company notifying them of a panic alarm at “Cars Restaurant” 150 Valley Road. An employee from Cars then dialed 911 and advised our dispatch that they had just been the victims of a robbery at gunpoint. There were three employees and one customer inside the store at the time of the robbery. The suspect is described as a black male, 6’2, approx 40yoa black coat, dark pants, and ski-mask covering his face. The suspect walked into the store wearing the ski mask and demanded that the employee open the register. The employee replied that they were unable to open the register at that time. The suspect then reached into his waistband and exposed the grip of a silver handgun. The suspect then took $107 in cash from the male customer in the store (19yoa from Montclair). The actor then fled on foot. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. Later that date, Montclair Detectives identified this robbery suspect as Mr. Dennis Royal (49yoa from Newark). Mr. Royal was charged with Robbery and Weapon Possession charges. On 12-13-2014, the State Police encountered Mr. Royal in the city of Irvington. He was discovered to have these open warrants out of Montclair and subsequently arrested. A handgun was found in his possession at the time of arrest.

On 12-12-2014 at 2336Hrs, Officers responded to Watchung Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arriving, Officers observed that vehicle operator; Jessica Becker (43yoa from Chatham) had crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers conducted Field Sobriety Testing and placed Ms. Becker under arrest for DWI.

On 12-15-2014 at 1349Hrs, Officers responded to CVS Pharmacy, 49 Claremont Avenue, on a report of a shoplifting. Upon arriving, officers arrested Ms. Jacquelin Fishman-Carter (50yoa from Montclair) for shoplifting items totaling $53.54. Ms. Fishman-Carter was also found to have open warrants out of Glen Ridge ($500) and Wayne ($500).

On 12-15-2014 at 1736Hrs, Officers responded to CVS Pharmacy, 514 Bloomfield Avenue, on a report of a shoplifting. Upon arriving, officers observed a subject running south on South park Street matching the suspect description. After a brief foot pursuit, Officers were successful in arresting Mr. Richard Burwell (45yoa from East Orange) for shoplifting items totaling $148.25. Mr. Burwell was also found to have an open warrant out of Georgia. His bail was set at $2,500 cash.

Motor Vehicle

On 12-12-2014 a Washington Avenue resident reported that they were the victims of a theft from a motor vehicle. The victim explained that between 1730Hrs on 12-11-2014 and 0830Hrs on 12-12-2014, someone had entered their Nissan Murano. Approximately $10 in loose change was stolen in this incident. On 12-12-2014 at 0831Hrs, a North Mountain resident reported that their vehicle had been stolen from the driveway of the home. The vehicle, a silver Acura MDX, had been left running. An officer on patrol had observed this vehicle on Lloyd Road, followed by a Jeep Cherokee, just prior to it having been reported stolen. Later that date, this vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, in the city of Orange. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Milano at 973-509-4719.

On 12-14-2014, an Oxford Street resident reported that an unknown person had thrown a rock through the back window of their vehicle. The vehicle, a Honda Accord, was parked in the driveway of the residence. This incident occurred between 2245hrs on 12-13-2014, and 0930Hrs on 12-14-2014. On 12-12-2014 a second Washington Avenue resident reported that someone had entered their vehicle. This victim explained that between 1900Hrs on 12-11-2014 and 0730Hrs on 12-12-2014, someone had entered their Toyota Prius. Nothing appears to have been stolen in this incident. On 12-14-2014, a Walnut Street resident reported that an unknown person had thrown a rock through the back window of their vehicle. The vehicle, a Nissan Maxima, was parked in the driveway of the residence. This incident occurred between 2130hrs and 2345Hrs on 12-13-2014. On 12-14-2014, a Christopher Street resident reported that an unknown person had thrown a rock through the front windshield of their vehicle. The vehicle, a Volkswagon, was parked on Chestnut Street. This incident occurred between 2330hrs on 12-13-2014, and 0800Hrs on 12-14-2014. Anyone with information is asked to contact our Juvenile Aid Bureau at 973-509-4751.

On 12-15-2014, an Essex Avenue resident reported that an unknown person had thrown a rock through the rear window of their vehicle. The vehicle, a silver Subaru, was parked in the driveway of the residence. This incident occurred during the overnight hours of 12-14-2014. Theft

On 12-15-2014, a Pine Street resident reported a theft of packages shipped to their residence. These two packages were stolen between 1436Hrs and 1800hrs. The contents of these two packages are valued at $90. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective L. Gutauskas at 973-509-4739.

On 12-15-2014, a Plymouth Street resident reported a theft of the contents of packages shipped to their residence. The contents of these six packages were stolen between 1630Hrs on 12-12-2014 and 0100hrs on 12-13-2014. The packages were left at the scene, but the contents (valued at $56) were taken.
