The Weekend: Last One of 2014

BY  |  Friday, Dec 26, 2014 9:00am

It’s a quiet weekend, since places are getting ready for New Year’s Eve next Wednesday, but there are still ways to get out and enjoy the last weekend of 2014:

The FlemtonesThe Flemtones perform at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair tonight. The band plays an eclectic mix of rock n roll cover tunes that stylistically include blues, R&B, roots rock, folk, country, pop, and a little bit of funk or jazz thrown in for good measure. They have been playing together in various incarnations and under a few different names (to stay a step ahead of the law) since they met at MHS in the mid-1970’s.

Curt Jones BandOn Saturday night, you can go to Hat City Kitchen in Orange to enjoy the music of The Curt Jones Band. Curt Jones continues to pay homage to great, legendary and sensational talents who have influenced him over the years, such as Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Prince, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, The Davenport Sisters, The Spinners and Harvey Fuqua. The sheer depth and intensity Jones brings to the stage mesmerizes his audiences.

Brian Kirk and The JirksYou could also go over to Just Jake’s in Montclair to see Brian Kirk and The Jirks. BK&J have the ability to play an extremely diverse repertoire of songs complete with killer solos and great groove. This allows the band to walk into virtually any situation and play what’s needed, whether it be rock, funk, pop, hip hop, swing, jazz, oldies, or modern songs. Whatever the style, Brian Kirk & The Jirks play it and play it well! Lead singer Brian doesn’t write a set list. Instead Brian calls songs based on the crowd in front of him and more importantly from requests he gets. Fans are treated more like friends and not just spectators. The audience is part of the show and this allows a stronger bond between the band and its fans.

I was assigned to chimney security today at middle school in the State of Washington, to prevent Betsy DeVoss from trying to climb in that way when she couldn't get in the front door. Protesters abounded below while I rode shotgun on the roof. We're with Montclair all the way. Glad you're here MontClairVoyant!
