This week’s Bloomfield crime blotter from Sgt. Anthony J. Servedio:
On January 27, 2015 an ATM machine was stolen from inside of the Dunkin Donuts, located at 135 Bloomfield Avenue.
After reviewing video surveillance investigators determined that the crime occurred at approximately 4:15 am, when a vehicle intentionally reversed through the side wall and plate glass window of the business to create an opening to access the ATM machine.
Investigators have determined that an SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, was used as an accomplice / lookout vehicle that parked in a disabled parking space near the crime scene and a male suspect exited. A second vehicle, possibly a 4 door Dodge pick-up truck backed into a parking space adjacent to the first suspect vehicle, then reversed through the plate glass window. One of the male suspects entered the building through the hole created by the crash, picked up the ATM and put it in the bed of the pick-up truck. Both actors got into their respective vehicles and fled the scene north on Grove Street. The suspects are described as follows:
Heavy male wearing a hooded sweatshirt, approximately 5’9” tall Thin male wearing a hooded sweatshirt, approximately 6’2” tall.
On January 29, 2015 at 9:42 am, Officer Robert Estelle was dispatched to a possible burglary in progress call, on the 100 block of Franklin St.
When Officer Estelle arrived he spoke with the victim, a 46 year old Bloomfield resident, who reported that he was inside his apartment when a dark skin male, 6’4” tall, wearing a red jacket, ski mask and gloves, forced his way into his apartment. The victim emerged from his bedroom after hearing the sounds of the forced entry, only to find the suspect standing in his apartment. The suspect said to the victim “sorry there was a mistake” and fled the scene. Another witness relayed to police that he believes that he witnessed the suspect before he entered the victim’s apartment and he believes the suspect had a partial beard and mustache. If anyone has information about this incident please contact the Bloomfield Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-680-4084.
