R.I.P. Santa Cruz Hughes

Santa Cruz Hughes (55), formerly of Montclair, NJ, passed away on February 11, 2015 in Greenwich Hospital after courageous perseverance against cancer. Raised in the South Bronx, Santa relocated to Montclair 29 years ago.

A life-long learner, Santa graduated from Stuyvesant High School, Florida A&M University, the Lauder Institute’s Joint MBA/MA program at the University of Pennsylvania, The CUNY Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and The Kripalu School of Ayurveda. An ambitious professional, Santa worked at Ernst & Whinney, Pepsi, and Liberty Science Center, spending most of her career as a marketer at M&M Mars. In 1997, Advertising Age Magazine named Santa as one of the Top 100 Marketers of the Year.

Santa’s life centered around her family and her PhD. studies in Cultural Anthropology. She especially focused on the development of her highly successful children, Danielle (29), Drisana (21) and Coleman (18). Santa actively participated with her devoted husband Duane in their school activities and organizations in and around Montclair, NJ, earning her black belt in Tae Kwon Do and practicing Yoga. Santa inspired many people to give the best of themselves through education and healthy living. In addition to her husband and children, Santa lives in the memories of her mother, siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces, colleagues and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 12 pm to 3 pm at the Montclair Art Museum located at 3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042.
