Gas Lamp Players Present "Shrek The Musical"

The weekend is upon us once again. Here are some fun and family-friendly things happening in our area. We told you about Shrek The Musical, and here are some other fun events:



Hedgehog & Feather Theatre Co. will be presenting Tomie De Paola’s Strega Nona at Westminster Hall, Presbyterian Church of Westfield (140 Mountain Ave, Westfield). This classic children’s tale centers on a wise old woman named Strega Nona who helps out everyone in her Italian village of Paola. When Strega Nona puts out an ad for an assistant, chaos ensues and only she can save the village. Tickets are $12 for general admission, with a special front pillow seating area for the younger audience members. Shows will be Friday, February 6th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, February 7th at 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM.

Alice-in-WonderlandThe Morris Museum will be holding a Chocolate Festival on Saturday, February 7th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visitors to the museum can play “Name that Chocolate,” participate in a chocolate tasting, create a love bug and more. Regular museum admission applies for this event. The museum’s Bickford Children’s Theater will hold a performance of Alice in Wonderland by the Pushcart Players at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. This show is recommended for ages 3 to 9. Tickets for this show are $10 for members and $12 for non-members. Combo tickets for the Chocolate Festival and the show are also available.

Sunshine Sam at 40 West Passaic Avenue in Bloomfield will be hosting a Fastrack Tournament at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 7th. Fastrack is a finger-powered disc-flinging game the whole family can enjoy. There are only 16 available slots in the tournament, so stop by or contact the store to reserve yours. All entrants are asked to bring a canned good which will be donated to Livingston C.H.O.W. and the grand prize is a $50 Sunshine Sam gift card. Even if you don’t enter, stop by the store to witness the fun!

On Sunday February 8th, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, located at 67 Park Street, Montclair, will offer a Family Fun Fest honoring real-life superheroes. This event was previously schedule for January but had to be postponed due to inclement weather. Batman and Batgirl will be standing by to kids about public safety, appear in photos and sign autographs. Also appearing will be Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam, performing original songs with positive messages for children. The event runs from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and tickets are $12/adults and $7/children age one year and up. Refreshments will be served, and face painting and craft activities will be available.
