Weekend Highlights: Your Guide To Family Fun

Happy weekend! Looking for some fun and exciting things to do with the family? You’re in the right place!

redknitgirlandthereadingtreeWatchung Booksellers (54 Fairfield Street, Montclair) will host an Author Storytime with Naoko Stoop who will be reading her third book, The Red Knit Cap Girl and the Reading Tree, on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. In this adventure, the Red Knit Cap Girl and her friends discover a hollow tree and turn it into a magical place they all can enjoy. The story emphasizes the joy of reading and the importance of working together.





Also on Saturday morning, Verona Public Library (17 Gould Street, Verona) will host a reading of Lucinda’s Magical Yoga Adventure at 11:00 AM. Children will enjoy an interactive reading where they pretend to be animals through a series of yoga poses. After the reading, there will be a book signing with the author and certified Yoga Alliance instructor, Betty Larrea. This event is for children 2 to 9 years old and their families.

Join Montclair’s Jazz House Kids on a Journey Through Jazz in honor of Black History Month at the Montclair Public Library (50 South Fullerton, Montclair) on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This live performance will examine the musical, historical and geographical influences that form the foundation of Jazz. There will also be a reading and book signing with children’s book author Denise Lewis Patrick (A Matter of Souls and American Girl: Meet Cecile).


big apple circusThe Big Apple Circus’ new show Metamorphosis is coming to TD Bank Ballpark (860 E. Main Street, Bridgewater) with performances all weekend long. The show features contortionists, the Flying Trapeze, clowns, and animals. No seat is more than 50 feet from the ringside, so everyone is close to the action. Ticket prices range from $25-$85. Check the website for show times and seating availability.

Bloomfield High School (160 Broad Street, Bloomfield) will present its Winter Musical production of SEUSSICAL this weekend (Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM). On Sunday, March 1, there will be two local Purim celebrations. From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, join the Jewish Cultural School and Society (JCSS) for a Purim Party at Glen Ridge High School (200 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge). Family and friends will celebrate Purim with rituals, songs, the reading of the Megillah, carnival games, student presentations, food and crafts. Please also bring a dish to share for the potluck buffet. Shomrei Emunah (67 Park Street, Montclair) will host a Gala Purim Carnival from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM featuring games, treats, a costume parade and more.
