One eastbound lane of Bloomfield Avenue at North Fullerton Avenue is currently shutdown due to a manhole explosion which occurred earlier today.

Brooke Fisher, a PSE&G spokesperson, issued the following startement to Baristanet:

At 2:27 p.m. today we received a call from the Montclair Police Department reporting a blown manhole on Bloomfield near Glen Ridge Ave. When we arrived we found an electric cable fault in the manhole. Approximately 850 customers were without power for a little over an hour until we were able to switch them to a backup circuit. There were no natural gas readings in or near the manholes. The cause of the electric fault is under investigation.

Montclair Police Department Deputy Chief Todd Conforti reported to Baristanet that there were no injuries. Currently, one eastbound lane is closed while public service is on the scene. Both westbound lanes are open.

Today’s manhole explosion is the third in Montclair this March.
