Succeed2gether To Hold 7th Annual Summer Enrichment Program

Succeed2gether will be holding its 7th Annual Summer Enrichment Program — its best program ever — for students from Montclair and Essex County, during the month of July.

As in previous summers, Succeed2gether will help students from low-income families stem the ‘summer slide,’ with a morning of academics. Research shows that children who do not have access to summer enrichment programs lose vital skills and enter school in the fall at a disadvantage.

In addition, this year there are new afternoon electives to help students develop critical skills and become healthier and more adventurous. These new classes and initiatives include coding and game design, computer competency, an art mural project based on this year’s theme of equity, justice, and community, a film-making class, a book club, a girls who code club, soccer, volleyball and yoga. As in previous years there will also be music, group games as well as arts and crafts classes.

New collaborations this year include Gwen Charles, from the Montclair Art Museum’s Artist-in-Residence program, who will be leading a mural project to be painted at the 11 Pine St. location. The Montclair Film Festival will be conducting a film-making project as the students explore the theme of equity, justice, and community through film as well as document the mural project. Montclair School District partnered this year with the donation of two classrooms at Glenfield School.

Added to these offerings are on-site field trips including a visit from the Montclair Art Museum’s Art Truck, a visit from the Camden Aquarium with water touch tables, and interactive presentations by the Essex County Environmental Center. And yes, there will still be time for lunch!

This amazing Summer Enrichment Program levels the academic playing field for the under-served children in the community while fostering a love of learning and keeping students engaged in academics during the summer months. Your donation supports a free academic enrichment program where students are treated to breakfast and lunch daily. Programs are taught by certified enthusiastic teachers who focus on the whole child’s academic and social success!

And we can get this project completed in time for Montclair's sesquicentennial when we can stick a fork into historic preservation as a public policy.
