On Friday night, gather on Church Street in Montclair for an outdoor showing of The Princess Bride, presented by Montclair Film Festival. The film begins at dusk, approximately 9:00 PM. Bring chairs and arrive early (the venue opens at 7:30 PM) to enjoy live music by Big Mamou. Rain date is August 21.

Addams-Family-LogoOn Friday and Saturday, the Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre (6 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown) will feature The Addams Family, a new musical comedy by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa. The performance will be presented by Theatre Next Door. Tickets are $20-$25 and can be purchased through the website. Shows are at 8:00 PM on Friday and 2:00 PM on Saturday.

 

The Montclair Jazz Festival happens this Saturday and this year there is much more for families to enjoy. In addition to nine hours of free family-friendly jazz from top musucians in the country, 160+ students from Jazz House Kids will perform. The Macy’s Family Jazz Discovery Zone is sure to be a hit with little kids. Musicians will read from their favorite jazz storybooks and they’ll be hands-on jazz art projects with the Montclair Art Museum to create.

 

JasonSamuelsSmithsolo2byMatthewMurphy_55b45a9154aeeOn Saturday evening at 7:30 PM, Bloomfield College’s Westminster Arts Center (449 Franklin Street, Bloomfield) will present Jersey Tap Fest’s Tap ‘n Time. The evening will feature song, rhythmic dance and astounding tapping feet with performances by world-renowned tap dancers Jason Samuels Smith (Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk), Caleb Teicher (Dorrance Dance) and Heather Cornell (Manhattan Tap), with interim performances by Boston Tap Company, Metro Youth Tap Ensemble, Capitol Tap and NJTAP2. Tickets are $20-$25 and available at the website.

 

On Sunday, Above and Beyond Holistic Wellness Center (122 East Ridgewood Avenue, Paramus) will host a Kids Wellness Festival from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. From 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, there will be a workshop to help make healthy choices for your child in the coming school year. In addition, there will be a healthy smoothie bar, a build-your-own-granola bar, bounce house, face painting, posture checks, and more. This event is free.

Sunday is World Honey Bee Day. Turtle Back Zoo (560 Northfield Avenue, West Orange) will be celebrating by focusing on a day of honey bee discoveries. They will explore the importance of bees in our ecosystem, our food supply, and economy through interactive stations. This event runs from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM and is included with zoo admission.

 

Also on Sunday, Merseles Studios at Jersey City Theater Center (339 Newark Avenue, 2nd Floor, Jersey City) will feature Puppetworks “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “The Snow Queen.” The first is the classic tale of the vain leader who buys a set of “invisible” clothes, and the second is the basis for Disney’s “Frozen”) about a girl who rescues her friend from a mysterious woman. Tickets are $11 for children and $12 for adults at the door. The show begins at 1:00 PM and is recommended for children ages 3 and up.
