Montclair’s Bass Arts Celebrates 10 Years With New Offerings

Montclair’s Bass Arts Studio has been providing creative children and teens with classes for 10 successful years, featuring art camp and courses and in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and fashion.

Starting this fall, children as young as 6 years old can participate in the popular Bass Arts Studio Fashion Program, with the introduction of new classes designed to cater to the creativity of very young artists.

Young Fashionistas will dive into the basics of fashion design for kids who are interested in fashion but not quite ready for the sewing machine. The course will cover sketching, creating simple patterns, and hand sewing. Rebecca Firkser, a recent graduate from Smith College with a degree in Costume Design, will teach this course. She has taught fashion classes for older students at Bass Arts studio for the past three summers.

Another new fun offering is Fabulous Felt Friends, exploring the world of DIY handmade dolls and stuffed animals through building skills in hand sewing, hand embroidery, fiber arts, and working with patterns. The course will be taught by Emma Mierop, who has attended art programs at the Cooper Union, Parsons New School of Design and the Montclair Art Museum. Prior to her work at Bass Arts Studio, she taught children’s craft classes and camp at Rock Paper Scissors.
