The temperature was in the low 40s, as hundreds of bike riders, 354 turkeys and more than $900 made their way from Brookdale ShopRite in Bloomfield, to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair, this Sunday morning.
Those were the numbers that will make an important difference in the lives of many on our area, having a tough time making ends meet this Thanksgiving.
It was all part of Montclair Bikery’s annualTurkey Ride. The riders we spoke to had huge smiles, after making the 15-mile round trip from the Bikery, to the Brookdale Shoprite to the Food Pantry.
Dave, from the East New Brunswick, Major Taylor Cycling Club, was one of the riders out today. “It’s my second time doing the turkey run,” Dave said, when we caught up with him again as he unloaded his frozen bird at the Label Street Pantry Headquarters.
Christin Mergner, Kathleen Heaney and Masami Araki, also out of towners and avid cyclists, were all first timers.
