It’s the weekend! We’ve got plenty of fun and family friendly activities happening in the area. Check ‘em out!
Watchung Booksellers (54 Fairfield Street, Montclair) will host Saturday Morning Author/Illustrator Storytime at 10:30 AM. This week’s book will be Little Red Gliding Hood, story by Tara Lazar and pictures by Troy Cummings. Tara Lazar, a New Jersey resident, will be in the store presenting this new story of one of our favorite fairy tale characters. Here, Little Red is a figure-skating enthusiast who must win new skates to replace her worn out pair. Who will her skating partner be? Find out Saturday!
On Saturday at 2:00 PM, the Shea Center for Performing Arts at William Paterson University (300 Pompton Road, Wayne) will present Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat. This live action production is perfect for kids ages 3 -9. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children.
The Montclair Art Museum (3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair) will host the MAM Family Art Adventure on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Drop in for the hour long gallery program for children ages 5 and up with their adult companions. Explore the museum and sculpture garden, discuss artworks and engage in fun activities. Admission is $15 per family/$6 Family Members.
Also on Sunday, join the Bergen County Audobon Society at the New Jersey Skylands Botanical Garden (2 Morris Road, Ringwood) for a Fall Nature Walk. Explore the garden and fields looking for the birds, berries and plants that populate the gardens in autumn. Meet at the Carriage House. Walk cancelled in case of rain. This event is free.
Also on Sunday, the Swedish Women’s Educational Association International, Inc. will present the 30th Annual Traditional Swedish Christmas Fair at The Commonwealth Club in Montclair (26 Northview Avenue, Upper Montclair). The event, which will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, will feature handcrafted Swedish holiday decorations, home baked goods, traditional Swedish food, a Swedish café and a Lucia Pageant from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Families can learn about the beautiful Swedish traditions while getting into the holiday spirit. Admission is $1 per person.
The Miller-Cory House Museum (614 Mountain Avenue, Westfield) will present their Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Demonstration & 18th Century Table Customs and Manners from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Costumed docents will provide a demonstration of the preparation of an early American Thanksgiving Day Dinner and will present table customs and manners. There will also be museum tours. Admission is $4 for ages 13 and up, $3 for ages 3-12, and children under 3 are free.
All weekend long, check out the New Jersey Comic Expo at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center (97 Sunfield Avenue, Edison). Kids are free with a paid adult and there is an entire area devoted just to kids with plenty of local artists, creators and vendors. Read our full story here.
