Lacordaire Academy hosted the North Jersey Junior Forensics League on December 16 for the Declamation Competition and won first place overall, vaulting the team to a fifteen point lead in the league to date.
Competitors Caitlyn Minutillo, Kathryn Morrow, and Bryce Rhodeman (all Montclair residents) did an outstanding job, and Lily Greenberg, Sabrina Skyers and Gabriel Margolies made it to the final round. Lily won second place overall, and Sabrina and Gabriel won honorable mention!
Students memorized three to five minute speeches that have been previously presented to a live audience. This year’s speeches ranged from J.K. Rowling’s inspirational speech about imagination to Steve Job’s speech about his circuitous route to success, which included failure, uncertainty, and disappointment. Words from Barak Obama, Winston Churchill, and the like, as well as the skill with which the words were delivered, inspired and impressed an audience of faculty, parents, and classmates from all nine competing schools.
