On Thursday night Chef Ariane Duarte competed for culinary glory in a holiday episode of the Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay,” and won.
Duarte, chef and owner of the former and favorite Montclair spot Culinariane and now of Ariane Kitchen & Bar in Verona, is no stranger to the Food Network. She competed in Top Chef Season 5, making it through until episode 8. This time she made it all the way to the top.
Manhattan-based Moroccan French chef Adil Fawzi and Duarte competed in the hopes of going up against Bobby Flay and beating him. Duarte beat Fawzi in the first round with her Chestnut Soup. Then she battled Bobby Flay in the “Signature Dishes” 2nd round. Duarte made a classic Beef Tenderloin, Flay made a South-of-the-Border flavored Beef Tenderloin. When the judges, Chef Alex Guarnaschelli and Penn Jillette, announced the winner, Duarte exclaimed “This is how we do it in Jersey! Merry Christmas!”
