A visit to the Liberty Science Center (LSC) is filled with fun and learning for families with kids of all ages. Right now LSC has Sid the Science Kid for the younger set and on-going exhibitions of Titanic, Tesla Lightning Show, and the informative and ever-changing Our Hudson Home.

Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! will be at Liberty Science Center through May 15th, and it’s included with regular admission. For those that know the Sid the Science Kid show on PBS, the exhibit will not disappoint with its creative and kid-friendly STEM activities that focus on hands-on learning. Our favorite stations were weighing different jars of food to see which were heaviest (marshmallows were not), creating patterns by baking “cookies” in the the kitchen, and testing out inertia by balancing with toys on a skateboard. There is also a dress-up area, a playhouse, and a large screen to dance with the show’s characters.
For older children, the Nikola Tesla Lightning Show is an exciting musical light-show. Shown three times a day on Saturdays and Sundays, the Tesla Show is free with admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the raised sound level and flashing lights, this show is not recommended for children 2 years and younger.
The Titanic exhibit, at LSC through May 30, 2016, is a treasure trove of detail and history. Each entrant receives a “Boarding Pass” with details about an actual Titanic passenger, and looking for facts and hints about the passenger’s fate. With displays of first class cabins, third class cabins, and even an “iceberg” to touch, this exhibition will be of interest to the whole family. The Titanic exhibit requires an all-access pass or combination ticket.

An on-going exhibit that always deserves a visit is Our Hudson Home. With hands-on science experiments, a harbor tank with turtles and fish, and a riverfront display with opportunities to create dams and levees, there’s always something new to learn. And this area of the LSC has a fantastic view!
