President’s Day Fun Activities & Winter Mini-Camps

Vacation Camps
Montclair YMCA Staycation Program Ages 3-6

Who: Kids ages 3 – 6.
What: Enjoy a variety of activities, including swimming, art, gym, science, cooking, music, story time and more.
Where: Geyer Family Branch, 159 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ 
When: Monday, February 15 & Tuesday, February 16. Full day: 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., Half day: 7:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Montclair YMCA Staycation: School Vacation Program
Who: Kids in grades 1 – 6.
What: A full day of activities, including gym time, games, swimming, crafts and more. Bring lunch, snack and a drink.
Where: YMCA of Montclair, 25 Park Street, Montclair or Bullock School (When Montclair schools are closed), 55 Washington Street, Montclair
When: Friday February 12 (Verona only), Monday, February 15 – Wednesday, February 17 from 7:30 am – 6:30 pm

Swimming in an indoor poolSouth Mountain YMCA Vacation Camp
Who: Grades k – 5.
What: Games, sports, crafts and more. Bring a bag lunch. Afternoon snack is supplied.
Where: South Mountain YMCA, 13 Jefferson Ave., Maplewood
When: Friday, February 12 & Monday, February 15 from 7:15am – 7:00pm

Camp Caldwell Mini-Camp
Who: Kids ages 4 – 12.
What: Activities include swimming, indoor and outdoor sports, and arts & crafts
Where: Caldwell Community Center, 1 Provost Square, Caldwell
When: Monday, February 15 & Tuesday, February 16, 7:30am – 6:00pm
Cost: $50/per day per camper for members, $75 per day per camper for non-members. Registration will close on February 12. expressWinter Break Art Workshop at Express Yourself Studios
Who: Kids ages 4 – 10.
What: Create paintings using a mix of mediums (acrylics, watercolor, and pastels) and other projects using a myriad of materials (clay & paper collages).  
Where: Express Yourself Studios, 1877 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood 
When: Friday, February 12, Monday, February 15 – Friday, February 19, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Cost:  $200 for the week or $50 per child/per day. You can also register for multiple days/sibling at $175 for the week or $45 per child/per day.

Who: Kids ages 3 1/2 – 5, Grades k – 3.
What:  Learn about animals in winter, conduct ice experiments, and get outside for some fun in the snow! Bring a lunch, snack and dress for the outdoors! 
Where: Cora Hartshorn Arboretum & Bird Sanctuary 324 Forest Drive South, Short Hills, NJ 
When: Monday, February 15 – Friday, February 19. 9:00am-12:00pm (Ages 3½-5)
9:00am- 3:00pm (Grades k – 3)
Cost: Ages 3 ½ – 5: $250, Grades k-3: $350/week. $75 membership fee is required with all registrations.

Presidents Day Events for Kids & Families

Character Building Program and Screening of Sandlot at Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center
When: Feb. 15th, 1-4 p.m.
Who: Grades 3-5
What: The first in a series of four classes, children will participate in a new interdisciplinary way to build character and learn about the honorable values personified by the legendary Yogi Berra. The first session will focus on diversity. Following the activities, the Museum will screen the popular baseball film “The Sandlot,” whose themes include building interpersonal skills, being a team player, and learning life lessons. Learn About The Presidents
Who: Kids ages 6 to 10.
What: Discover how our past presidents (and their wives and children) lived through hands-on activities and craft projects.
Where: The Israel Crane House and Historic YWCA, 110 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ.
When: Monday, February 15 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Cost: Admission is $10/child, which includes the cost of all supplies and materials.  Call 973-744-1796 to reserve a place by Wednesday, February 10.

Presidents Day Birthday Bash
Who: Ages 3 – 5 years.
What: Sing songs, make a craft, and enjoy some cake at this birthday celebration.
Where: JCC MetroWest | Parent Place, 760 Northfield Avenue, West Orange
When: Monday, February 15 from 9:00am – 1:00pm
Cost: Members: $45, Guest: $60

Presidential Bingo and Crafts Workshop
Who: All ages.
What: Play presidential bingo and make a patriotic craft.
Where: Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown, NJ 07960
When: Monday, February 15 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.

Presidential Costume Contest
Who: Kids ages 12 and under.
What: Come dressed like your favorite President or First Lady. The most original costume will win a family membership, valued at $95. The winner will be selected during the Kids Town Hall Program at noon.

Kids Town Hall: Meet the Presidents

Who: All ages.
What: Participate in a special Kid’s Town Hall with some very famous guests – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.
