Update: Linda Wanat, Montclair’s Municipal Clerk, confirms that certification of the petition signatures for Maureen Edelson was not completed before the office closed Monday.
Monday, March 7 at 4 p.m., was the deadline to hand in petitions to run in the Montclair 2016 Election.
The candidates who handed in petitions and are certified:
Mayor Robert Jackson
Deputy Mayor Robert Russo (At Large)
Councilor William Hurlock (First Ward)
Councilor Sean Spiller (Third Ward)
Councilor Renee Baskerville (4th Ward)
Councilor Robin Schlager (Second Ward)
Councilor Rich McMahon (At Large)
The only new (possible) candidate is Maureen Edelson, who handed in her petitions today to run for 3rd Ward Councilor against incumbent Sean Spiller. According to Juliet Lee, Deputy Municipal Clerk, the clerk’s office was in the process of certifying the signatures late this afternoon. (Lee also confirmed that Daniel Cruz withdrew from the race.)

Edelson, a Mets fan and director of Montclair Physical Therapy (now located in Cedar Grove), picked up a packet on Friday and collected signatures over the weekend. She wrote this on her Facebook page:
So happy to be throwing my hat into the ring for Montclair’s 3rd Ward Councilperson. I’m an Independent running on a Quality of Life platform.
Meanwhile, the incumbent council released this photo and a press release today, stating:
“We ran four years ago on the promise that we would address the fiscal challenges facing our town, while preserving the unique character and values that make Montclair the special place it is,” said slate members in a joint statement.
“From day one, we got to work and got results for Montclair taxpayers. We’ve lowered the municipal debt by more than $40 million and our bond rating has been raised twice to AA+.”
