The Montclair Film Festival Summer Series will present Purple Rain on Friday night and include a pre-show Prince tribute by Parents Who Rock band The No Rehearsals and special guests. It’s a Prince fan’s dream! Bring your picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets.

Rakim will perform at The Wellmont Theater on Friday night. In 1986, Rakim started to work with New York-based producer-DJ Eric B. The duo—known as Eric B & Rakim—is widely regarded as among the most influential and groundbreaking of hip-hop groups, due in no small part to Rakim’s technical abilities. Rakim pioneered a practice previously unknown to hip-hop called internal rhyming. Already an important aspect of traditional poetry, where rhymes could be found throughout the bar of a lyric which added to the rhythmic complexity of the song

Maplewoodstock, the two day festival of great music and arts, happens this Saturday and Sunday. There’s a lot going on at Maplewoodstock, especially for kids, but it’s really all about the music. This free event, at Memorial Park (right across from the Maplewood train station), will feature lots of talent throughout the day. Headliners include Railroad Earth, NRBQ, Maya Azucena, and Nicole Atkins. Plus great vendors and plenty of food!

Kevin March, the General Manager at School of Rock Montclair, will perform with the band Guided By Voices as the headline act at the sixth annual 4Knots Festival at South Street Seaport on Sunday. Sharing the stage with Guided By Voices at the 4Knots Festival will be artists in a variety of genres, including alt country band The Strumbellas, rapper Kirk Knight, indie rock band Car Seat Headrest, folk punk duo Girlpool, Americana/EDM artist Bayonne, and many more.
