After 47 Years in Montclair, The Cozy End Closes

The Cozy End, a luncheonette that has been in town since 1969, has closed. Locals will no longer have what some say was a “Cheers-feel” type of place to enjoy a meal. It’s also a big loss for those on gluten-free diets, as The Cozy End had an extensive menu offering tasty GF-food.

Michael Awad purchased The Cozy End from the original owners, Armando and Anna Masucci, when they retired in 1997.  Baristanet spoke with Awad who said the reason for closing was the skyrocketing lease cost. Unable to afford the rent, he said he had to make the decision to close for good. The property is currently listed for lease.

  1. my kids loved to eat here. We just went recently and I have to say that food seemed to have gone down hill. The service was never anything to write home about (strange people in fact) And the decor really needs some updating. I would love to see a cool place take that space – the upper mont. square needs a GREAT Italian!
