Montclair area residents are invited to drive into the future at a free National Drive Electric Week “EVent” on Sunday, September 11, from 11 am – 3 pm in the parking lot of Nauna’s Bella Casa, 148 Valley Road (at Van Vleck Street), Montclair, 07042.

Nauna’s Tom Moloughney — an EV expert — has held electric car meets in the past and already lets his clients plug in and charge up at his on-site charging stations.

Attendees will be able to pick from several new electric cars to take out for a spin and experience the thrill of electric driving. Plus, you’ll have an opportunity to talk to many electric car owners who will be on hand to answer questions on vehicles from various manufacturers.

BMW of Bloomfield will showcase their latest range of electric and hybrid models, including the new BMW i3, and the X5 40e and 330e plug-in hybrids; a BMW i8 sports car will also be on static display.

With the rising sales of electric vehicles (EVs), BMW has partnered with ChargePoint — the world’s largest charging station network — and other car makers to create an express charging corridor along the east coast at convenient locations from Boston to Washington D.C.

More locally, BMW is donating charging equipment to the Township of Montclair to increase the use of public charging stations, which will be available to electric car drivers and visiting shoppers in the fall.

Montclair’s Environmental Affairs office also encourages and supports public charging infrastructure for EVs, helping to slow climate change by powering cars with electricity instead of gasoline. The Township installed the state’s first networked series of public chargers in 2010: two ChargePoint stations are located in the Upper Montclair Parking Plaza, and two at the Fullerton Parking Deck next to the Park Street YMCA.
