One of the most eclectic of R&B vocal artists, Philly-born Bilal draws his inspirations from gospel, jazz, soul, blues and hip-hop. he will perform a free concert at NJPAC Sounds of the City tonight. Bilal’s 2010 album, Airtight’s Revenge, yielded the GRAMMY-nominated song “Little Ones.” Three years later, his release A Love Surreal garnered critical acclaim when it was named one of People magazine’s Top 10 albums of the year.

The Flemtones

The Flemtones will perform at Tierney’s in Montclair on Friday night. The Flemtones play an eclectic mix of rock n roll cover tunes that stylistically include blues, r&b, roots rock, folk, country, pop, and a little bit of funk or jazz thrown in for good measure. They have been playing together in various incarnations and under a few different names (to stay a step ahead of the law) since they met at MHS in the mid-1970’s.

ENRICO GRANAFEIOn Saturday night at Trumpet’s Jazz Club and Restaurant in Montclair, the Enrico Granafei Quartet will perform a tribute to Toots Thielemans. Granafei has been the owner and musical director of Trumpets since 1999. One of the most respected players of the Chromatic Harmonica in the world today, Granafei continues to cultivate an audience for the instrument through his international performances. As jazz pianist/historian Lewis Porter says: “This could be the start of something big for harmonica players everywhere.”

Music at the Mansion

Another installment of “Music at the Mansion,” returns on Sunday at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center. The series showcases talented performers from NYC and NJ. Performers this Sunday will include Lauren Stanford, Sean Harkness, and Marieann Meringolo.
