Weekend Family Highlights: MAM Lawn Party, Family Festival, Pokemon GO

Happy weekend! Now that the kids are back to school, it’s time to make the weekends extra fun! We’ve rounded up some family friendly things to do. Check ‘em out!

Montclair Art Museum (3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair) will host a Lawn Party on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Celebrate the opening of Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series and do it. The event will also feature a special Parents Who Rock 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert for MAM. In addition to viewing new exhibitions, families can enjoy face painting, family yoga, the School of Rock Instrument Petting Zoo, or get a (temporary) punk hair do. Food vendors will also be on site. For a line-up of activities and performances, be sure to visit the website. This event is free and open to the public.


Also on Saturday, visit Barnes & Noble (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) for story time at 11:00 AM. The creators of bestselling picture books Rosie Revere, Engineer and Iggy Peck, Architect are back with a story about the power of curiosity in the hands of a child on a mission to use science to understand her world. Discover this new story, Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty.

Make Corn Husk Dolls & Discover Cara’s Cottage at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm (73 Kahdena Road, Morris Township) on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (3:30 for corn husk dolls). Enjoy a craft at the Visitor’s Center and play games that were popular long ago. Out on the Farm, visit Caroline Foster’s “Temple of Abiding Peace,” which she built by hand and used to entertain friends. Explore Cara’s garden and sample light refreshments. Cost is $6 per adult, $5 per senior (65+), $4 per child age 4-16, $2 per child ages 2 and 3, and free for children under age 2.

pokemon-goThe Township of Lyndhurst will host a Pokemon Go Family Fun Night at the Town Hall Park (Delafield Avenue & Court Street, Lyndhurst) on Saturday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. There will be nine lure Pokestops lit for the duration of the event. Enjoy food and snacks to support the Lyndhurst Emergency Squad. This event is free. Rain date is September 17th.

St. Valentine Church (125 North Spring Street, Bloomfield) will host its annual Family Festival this weekend. Open from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Friday, 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Saturday, and 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday. Enjoy rides, games and fun all weekend long. A 50/50 raffle drawing will be held at the close of the festival.


The New York Renaissance Faire (600 Route 17A, Tuxedo Park, NY) continues this weekend. Travel back in time to Elizabethan England complete with 16th Century games, rides, arts, crafts, food, music and dance. The faire is open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Visit the website for adult tickets, the stage schedule and special events. The faire is open Saturdays and Sundays through October 2, 2016.
