Bloomfield Crime: Tires Slashed on Car With Trump Signs and Flags, Shoplifting, Burglary

The week in Bloomfield crime from Officer Ralph Marotti, Bloomfield Police Department:

Theft

11/09/2016- Police responded to the Stop & Shop Store located at 8 Franklin Street on a reported shoplifter, who fled the store. The suspect a black male in his 20’s stole frozen seafood valued at $72.00 dollars. Police canvassed area having negative results. The incident was captured on store security video and turned over to the police for further investigation.

11/09/2016- Police were dispatched to the CVS Store located at 331 Broad Street on a reported theft. Store employee observed a black male enter the store through rear entrance and started to conceal cosmetics in his pockets. The suspect then fled the store entering a vehicle that was parked in the back of the building. The incident was captured on store video and forwarded to police.

11/09/2016-Gustavo Alameda age 23 of Newark NJ was arrested at 7:47pm and charged with Burglary and Theft into a Motor Vehicle. Mr. Alameda was observed entering a vehicle parked on North 15th Street, taking loose change and other personal items. PO Navarro located the suspect matching the description given by the witness. The suspect was walking on North 16th Street carrying a backpack. The suspect, Mr. Alameda was also found in possession of the items stolen from the vehicle. Police transported Mr. Alameda to police headquarters where he was held in lieu of bail set at $25,000 dollars.

11/10/2016-Tyrone Thompson age 47 of Brooklyn NY was arrested at 12:14pm and charged w Theft and Resisting Arrest. PO Edward Ratliff was dispatched to the CVS Store located at 331 Broad Street on a shoplifter, who was still inside the store. The suspect was located and found to be in possession of stolen merchandise. The suspect Tyrone Thompson was advised he was being placed under arrest at which time he fled, running down the aisle. PO Ratliff apprehended the suspect inside the store. The stolen proceeds were recovered which totaled $488.00 dollars. Mr. Thompson was issued summons and ROR with a pending court date.

11/10/2016-Police were dispatched to the Food town located at 296 Glenwood Avenue on a report of (2) shoplifting incidents occurring in the past, both involving the same suspect. The store manager provided police with pictures of the suspect along with store security video. The incidents occurred in July and October with the total value of proceeds at $88.00 dollars.

Motor Vehicle Theft

11/09/2016- A 1999 Jeep Cherokee color red was reported stolen from Baldwin Place. The vehicle was last seen parked at 10pm and discovered missing the next morning. The vehicle was entered stolen.

Robbery

11/08/2016- The victim a CVS Manager was walking to the PNC Bank with deposit money, when he was approached by a black male near the stairwell to the Lackawanna Train Station. The suspect stuck an unknown object into his waist area. The suspect made the victim walk onto Henry Street into a driveway. Victim was forced to empty his pockets and instructed to take off his backpack, which contained approximately $40,000 for a bank deposit. The suspect then sprayed pepper spray into victims face and fled the scene. Police are actively investigating the incident.

Burglary

11/09/2016-Darrin Brookins age 48 of East Orange NJ was arrested at 2:30pm and charged with Burglary and Theft. Police were dispatched to an apartment on Patton Drive on a reported Burglary. Female victim encountered the suspect inside her apartment. The suspect took (2) laptop computers and fled on foot towards Belleville. Sgt. Joseph Corio along with a Belleville Unit located the suspect fitting the description at the 7-Eleven Store on Mill Street. The suspect identified as Darrin Brookins was also found to be in possession of the stolen laptops. Mr. Brookins was held in lieu of bail set at $50,000 dollars.

11/11/2016- Police responded to a Leo Terrace residence at 11:00pm on a reported Burglary. The homeowner discovered the house ransacked with jewelry and a laptop missing. The front door was discovered damaged as a result of being forced open. The incident is believed to have occurred after 11am. Detective Bureau actively investigating incident.

Warrant Arrest

11/07/2016-Rayshawn Thomas age 25 of Brooklyn NY was arrested at 1:00am for an active warrant out of Seaside Heights NJ. He was issued a new court date after posting bail in the amount of $400.00 dollars.

11/07/2016-Brian Hobson age 23 of Newark NJ was arrested at 9:51am for an active traffic warrant out of Roselle Park NJ. PO Glenn Capito on patrol in the area of Bloomfield Avenue conducted a motor vehicle stop after a random plate check revealed the register owner to have a suspended driver license. The vehicle a Honda Civic was being operated by Brian Hobson the registered owner. He was issued new court date after posting bail. Mr. Hobson was additionally issued summons for Unregistered Vehicle and Suspended Driver.

11/08/2016-Derrick Benjamin age 44 of East Orange NJ was arrested at 1:09am for (3) outstanding traffic warrants. PO Joseph Condito initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a Dodge Caravan exit 122 Bloomfield Avenue crossing both southbound and northbound lanes. The driver Derrick Benjamin was found to have active warrants out of Newark and Bloomfield. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Mr. Benjamin was released after posting bail.

11/10/2016-Michelle McNeal age 54 of Newark was arrested at 7:20pm for an active warrant out of Newark NJ. PO Joseph Condito and PO Niekrasz observed a female standing in front of Stop & Shop entrance panhandling for money in violation of Bloomfield Town Ordinance. A record check resulted in the discovery of the warrant. Ms. McNeal was issued a summons for violation of Bloomfield Ordinance and ROR on the Newark Warrant.

Criminal Mischief

11/10/2016-Police responded to the Nevada Diner located on Broad Street at 8:00pm on a report of a vehicle with slashed tires. The owner discovered the slashed tires after leaving the diner with his family. The vehicle was parked on Broad Street in front of the Diner with Trump support signs and flags displayed on the vehicle. Three black males approximately 15 years old, were seen by the truck shouting obscenities towards Trump. Police actively investigating incident.

    When can we expect the HuffPo article from the Montclair writer about the tires being slashed on the Trump car? Or does that not measure up to having a bumper sticker defaced?
