Glen Ridge Crime: Stolen Political Lawn Sign, Woman Robbed While Walking From Train Station, Arrests

Date/Time: 10-29-2016 at 12:37am
Incident: Simple Assault
Description: Officer Perigo and A/Sgt. Schwartz responded to Woodland Avenue on a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, the parties were separated. Upon investigation it was determined that this was a disagreement between a taxi driver and resident over a disputed fare which led to an altercation. All parties were separated and referred to municipal court.

Incident: Burglary to Auto
Description: Officer High responded to Yantecaw Avenue on a report of an entered vehicle which occurred between 10/24/2016 and 10/29/2016. The victim advised that an unknown actor had entered his vehicle and removed several items. Any person with information is asked to call Det. Medico at 973-748-5400 x 120.

Incident: Theft
Description: Officer Perigo responded to the 300 block of Forest Avenue on a report of a theft. The victim advised that an unknown actor stolen a political lawn sign. Any person with information is asked to call Det. Medico at 973-748-5400 x 120.

Date/Time: 10-31-2016 at 8:38 pm
Incident: Robbery
Description: On 10/31/16 at 8:38 pm, a resident commuter reported that several minutes in the past, while walking home from the train station, she was robbed at the corner of Ridgewood Avenue and Reynolds Road. The suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her by the head and demanded her belongings. The suspect threw the victim to the ground and fled the area on foot, possibly heading north on Ridgewood Avenue. The victim’s backpack, containing a cell phone and laptop, were stolen. At this time, the only known description of the suspect is a young male 18-25 years old, wearing all black with a black baseball style jacket with white lettering on the back. A possible accomplice was in the area and fled with the suspect. There is no known description on the accomplice. Incident: Criminal Mischief
Description: Officer Romaine responded to Baldwin Street on a report of Criminal Mischief. The victim advised that an unknown actor had thrown a can through the front window of the residence. A witness advised that the actor was seen running south on Sherman Avenue wearing a light colored sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Medico at 973-748-5400 x 120.

Date/Time: 10-31-2016 at 11:35 pm
Incident: Disorderly Conduct
Description: Mr. Michael Malia, 34, of Bloomfield was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct while in the area of Mountainside Hospital for creating a disturbance. He was placed under arrest by a Montclair Police Officer and transported to Glen Ridge for processing. This matter has been referred to the Glen Ridge Municipal Court.

Date/Time: 11-2-2016 at 8:30 pm
Incident: Warrant Arrest
Description: Mr. Cordeiro Newaton, 26, of Montclair was placed under arrest by Officer Holley after a traffic stop for outstanding warrants. He was transported to headquarters, processed and later released.

During this week the Glen Ridge Police Department investigated (5) motor vehicle accidents.
